| 20 American Dollars is a new independent film company based in Boston and entirely owned and operated by two women – Anne Continelli and Deb Malone. Its goal to prove that in a male dominated profession like film, two women have the business smarts, sass and cunning to produce thought provoking, politically relevant, original movies that are fucking hilarious.
They first started working together when Deb came on board as an ASM, then a stage manager and finally production manager with T & A Theatre Company, a company Anne owned with another business partner. Their strengths as producers complemented each other and they soon realized together they could be a successful production team.
This led to the creation of Bare Minimum Productions. With this new theatre company they produced their first play, Gender Bender, at the Boston Center for the Arts in the fall of 2005. This original comedy, written by Anne and starring Deb, won the hearts of audience members and gathered the attention of investors. But more importantly, it solidified in Anne and Deb that they were on the right path.
In April of 2006, while working on the Boston leg of the 48 hour film project, Anne and Deb also discovered a love for film. Their project, "Barbara's Dream House", ignited a creative spark and shifted their focus to film. Anne and Deb started thinking about their company and its future and realized they were worth more than the Bare Minimum -- they were worth at least 20 American Dollars.
This joke sealed the deal and gave birth to a new phase in their careers and lives. With 20 American Dollars, Anne and Deb plan to take the ideas created with a wonderful story writing team, and through blood, sweat and tears, bring these stories to fruition. Based in the city Deb was born in and that Anne now calls home, 20 American Dollars aims to bring the art of independent filmmaking to Boston.
